What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable containing poly L lactic acid, also called PLLA. It stimulates collagen production, with changes developing gradually. It differs from hyaluronic acid filler and Radiesse in composition, treatment planning and complication management.
Gradual results and treatment planning
The appearance immediately after an injection includes temporary effects from fluid and swelling. It is not the final collagen response. Discuss a staged plan and review the response before deciding on further sessions rather than expecting an immediate finished result.
Is this treatment right for me?
A consultation considers facial anatomy, previous injections, skin condition and the change you want. Tell the doctor about severe allergies, a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars, medicines and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Active inflammation or infection in the treatment area needs to resolve before treatment.
Sculptra compared with other injectables
A wish for a small, targeted change may call for a different product or approach. Sculptra is not interchangeable with hyaluronic acid filler and cannot be dissolved with the enzyme used for that filler. Ask why the proposed material suits your concern and what alternatives are available.
Risks and follow up
Swelling, bruising, tenderness and lumps can occur. Nodules may develop later and need assessment. Unintended injection into a blood vessel can cause serious injury, including vision loss or stroke. Ask about complication management and personalised aftercare. Unusual pain, skin colour changes or visual symptoms require urgent medical assessment.

How many Sculptra sessions will I need?
The number of sessions and their spacing depend on assessment and response. Ask for a staged treatment plan, the proposed amount at each appointment and the total expected cost.
When will I see the result?
Changes develop gradually over the following weeks and months. Early swelling should not be mistaken for the settled result. Your doctor will explain when to assess the response.
Is Sculptra the same as Radiesse?
No. Sculptra contains PLLA, while Radiesse is based on calcium hydroxylapatite. They have different properties and are not automatically suitable for the same patient or treatment area.
